Señor Winning here to take a look at Australia’s favourite Kiwi.

Tamou has been one of those players that you may have always had your eye on over the past few years. Always showing plenty of promise, he stepped up his game in 2012.

Averaged 45.82 in 2011, and came into this season at the premium price (for a prop at least) of $271,400. There wasn’t much hype or fanfare around him last pre-season, with many coaches overlooking the Australia/NSW front rower.

But some big numbers and consistent displays has meant that, despite him missing for parts of the season through Origin, he has become a pretty unique premium front rower. Where does he earn his points?

Loves a tackle, and with his imposing frame, he’s been able to break through plenty of them himself. Gets through a fairly consistent amount of metres each week, and can run down Benji Marshall. Not that earns him extra, but it was still pretty impressive.

The big thing I’ve noticed is his discipline. While he is prone to the occasional penalty or error, there have been long stretches of 2012 where he has gone error and penalty free. These stats hold a lot of other props back, and given how involved he is in every game, it’s not too shabby.

I really like the look of him for 2013. While he’s not one who will make you cash (in fact he’ll probably lose you a little bit, hovering around or just below his starting price), he’s what I think you look for in one of your props – solid and consistent. A guy who you can rely on for 40+ most weeks as well as the occasional big score.

Thoughts on Tamou DreamTeamers? He could be one of the first 2013 signings for #winning.
