Dire straights: Prior referred straight to Judiciary

The NRL judiciary are expected to give St George Illawarra’s Matt Prior a massive smack on the toosh after the Match Review Committtee referred him straight to the judiciary for an elbow to the face of Johno Thurston on Friday night. The elbow left Thurston in Disneyland and had to leave the field. The referees were left with no option but to send Prior off for the hit in the 54th minute. Fair enough really.

For DreamTeamers wondering, this now means Prior can be suspended above what the match review panel can hand out in terms of lengthy suspensions.

If it’s not already obvious and you’re wondering what to do with him… PUNT HIM!

Who would you replace Prior with?

Four other players were charged by the match review committee, with Eels’ Reni Maitua, Cowboys’ James Segeyaro and Knights’ Joel Edwards all facing one week on the sidelines, while Roosters’ Jake Friend has been charged but will not miss any matches.

Maitua will miss 1 week regardless after he was charged with a grade 1 careless high tackle on Canterbury Bulldogs hooker Michael Ennis .

Segeyaro was charged with a grade 2 careless high tackle, on Dragons halfback Ben Hornby and will be suspended for the Cowboys match against the Knights if he takes the early plea.

Edwards was charged with a grade 1 dangerous throw on Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce and will miss his side’s match against the Cowboys even with an early plea.

Friend was charged with a grade 1 careless high tackle on Newcastle’s Alex McKinnon, but will be free to play against the Warriors this week.
