The Postman teams up with The Dummy’s Half to give you the Origin 1 Dream Team Blitz.
Last minute I know but better late than never. The rules are simple – pick half a dozen or so NSW and QLD players, stir them together, add a captain and a vice captain and hope you chose wisely.
Speaking of choosing wisely, NSW coach Ricky Stuart might want to watch his back after omitting Anthony ‘The Turnstile’ Watmough…
Horry’s Horrendo’s are The Dummy Half’s unit for Origin Dream Team, while The Dixie Ice Creams will carry the flag for The Postman.
Fullback:
Horry’s Horrendo’s choose Billy Slater – Easy choice, class player, far better than Stewart in life and in Dream Team.
Dixie Ice Creams choose Billy Slater – A. He’s a gun and B. He’s likely to break NSW’s hearts again in the last 5 minutes… if he does I want the points.
Centre:
Horry’s Horrendo’s choose Justin Hodges – This position will make or break your DT, I love Hodges work out of dummy half in Origin and he should grab a try or two.
Dixie Ice Creams choose Josh Morris – it was Hodges or Morris and although I think both will score a try, I think Morris will defend his little heart out against Inglis and that hopefully means a 10 or so more points.
Half:
Horry’s Horrendo’s choose Johnathan Thurston – A tough decision, but chose Thurston because he will still run the show despite Cronk’s presence.
Dixie Ice Creams choose Cooper Cronk – Tackles like a trooper and will do his share of the kicking, so much so I think he hurts Thurston’s value. Can’t touch Pearce and Carney will score 65 or 15.
Front Rower:
Horry’s Horrendo’s choose Paul Gallen – Is there any other choice?
Dixie Ice Creams choose Paul Gallen – easiest choice of all as long as his leg holds up.
Hooker:
Horry’s Horrendo’s choose Robbie Farah – Here is my roughie, everyone will have Smith so I’m hoping RF comes out with something to prove.
Dixie Ice Creams choose Cameron Smith - Will make 50 tackles even if QLD win. Won’t shoot for goal but he might kick 2-4 times and that might be real value adding gravy.
Second Rower:
Horry’s Horrendo’s choose Glenn Stewart – I’m hoping his creativity out wide will get him some added points to go with his tackles and hit-ups.
Dixie Ice Creams choose Ashley Harrison – Will play best part of the 80 minutes and make 40-50 tackles. If he can add some metres and offloads that’ll do. Too many backrow options on the Blues to choose one great one from.
Captain (Triple points):
Horry’s Horrendo’s choose Paul Gallen – So solid you know he’ll get points
Dixie Ice Creams choose Cameron Smith - I’ll skipper the 50 tackles thanks.
Vice Captain (Double points):
Horry’s Horrendo’s choose Robbie Farah – Again, he’s my roughie, hoping he makes 50+ tackles.
Dixie Ice Creams choose Paul Gallen – Isn’t skipper because I’m worried about that leg issue costing him minutes in the second half…
Horry’s Horrendo’s Bottom Line: Overall I have a good mix of Queenslanders and New South Welshmen and I have gone for Gallen as the go-to man for the triple points. But my hopes rest on Farah producing in his first Origin series and Hodges being the man in the all important and wide open centre position. Go the Blues!
Dixie Ice Creams Bottom Line: Hard to get any real point of difference in this style of game where you don’t actually have to make any tough decisions with everyone who is a gun available. Game 1 leaders will be those who either pick the eyes out of the Fullback and Winger/Centre spots and the Game 1 top score will be the genius who makes that FB/WI/CE skipper and triples up a score of 70+ by an Inglis, Slater or a Hodges. I’m trying hard to get in contention after Game 1 – so Smith and Gallen shoulder the workload plus guys who tackle in Game 1 for me. Go the Blues!
If you read this after Origin 1 – how did your team go DreamTeamers? TDH and The Postman will be back later in the week with our thoughts on Game 1.
The Postman’s Mail: Remember DreamTeamers you can still enter your team here and the comp runs for all three games – so you need to get extremely lucky for three matches, not just the one. GO THE BLUES!
